Making to a guess gets it wrong twice at once — too much of one thing sitting there going stale, and none of the other thing when somebody asks for it. Making only to replace what was taken keeps the same oven just as busy and puts what it makes where people are actually reaching. Making to a guess is what people mean by push. Making only to replace what was taken is what they mean by pull.
