CONWIPConstant Work In Process

A pull system that caps the total work-in-process in a line, releasing new work only as finished work exits.

CONWIP (Constant Work-In-Process) is a pull-control strategy that limits the total amount of WIP in a production line. A new job is released only when a completed job leaves the line, holding total WIP constant.

It is simpler to manage than card-based kanban for mixed-product lines and leverages Little's Law directly: by fixing WIP, it stabilizes lead time.

Put CONWIP into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
