Kanban

A visual signaling system that triggers production or replenishment based on actual consumption rather than forecasts.

Kanban (Japanese for "signboard") is a visual signal — a card, bin, or empty space — that authorizes the production or movement of material only when downstream consumption creates the need. It is the practical engine of a pull system.

By capping the number of kanban in circulation, you cap WIP and let demand pull work through the value stream, preventing overproduction.

Put Kanban into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
