Work Measurement

Work SamplingActivity Sampling

A statistical technique that uses many random observations to estimate the proportion of time spent on each activity.

Work sampling estimates how time is distributed across activities by taking a large number of instantaneous random observations rather than continuously timing one task. The proportion of observations in each category estimates the proportion of time spent there.

It is ideal for studying non-repetitive or multi-machine work, measuring machine utilization, and quantifying delays — complementing detailed time studies for setting standard times and allowances.

Put Work Sampling into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
