Predictive maintenance (PdM) uses sensor data — vibration, temperature, oil analysis, acoustics — to detect the early signature of a developing failure and intervene just in time, rather than on a fixed calendar.
It avoids both the surprise of run-to-failure and the waste of replacing healthy parts under preventive maintenance. PdM is a flagship application of IIoT and Industry 4.0.
