MuriOverburden

Unreasonable strain on people or equipment caused by poor design or uneven demand.

Muri is overburden — pushing people or machines beyond their reasonable limits. For people it shows up as fatigue, ergonomic injury, and error; for equipment as accelerated wear and breakdowns.

Muri is often caused by mura (unevenness) and is reduced by leveling work, designing good standard work, and improving ergonomics. It is the third of the three Ms of waste.
