ChangeoverSetup

The time to switch production from one product to the next, including cleanup, tooling change, adjustment, and first-article validation.

Changeover (or setup) is the elapsed time from the last good piece of one product to the first good piece of the next. Long changeovers force large batch sizes, which inflate inventory and lead time.

Reducing changeover time through SMED is therefore one of the highest-leverage lean improvements — it unlocks smaller batches, faster response, and higher OEE.

Put Changeover into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
