Downtime

Any period when equipment is not producing during planned production time, whether planned or unplanned.

Downtime is lost production time during the planned schedule. It splits into planned downtime (changeovers, preventive maintenance) and unplanned downtime (breakdowns, material shortages, quality stoppages).

Downtime is the largest driver of lost availability and therefore OEE. Quantifying its true cost — including lost throughput at a bottleneck — is essential to justify maintenance investment.

Put Downtime into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
