Quality

ScrapWaste / Reject

Material or product that fails quality requirements and cannot be reworked, representing pure loss.

Scrap is output that does not meet specification and cannot be economically reworked — it must be discarded or recycled. It represents the most visible internal failure cost in the cost of quality.

Scrap consumes material, machine time, and labor with zero return, and at a bottleneck it also destroys throughput. Reducing scrap is a primary aim of SPC, poka-yoke, and Six Sigma.

Put Scrap into practice

SymplProcess turns these concepts into working models, calculators, and templates your whole team can use — no spreadsheets required.
