Milk Run

A scheduled route that picks up or delivers material in small quantities from multiple points on a fixed cycle.

A milk run is a fixed-route, fixed-time material delivery loop — named after the dairy delivering and collecting bottles. Internally, a water spider follows a timed route delivering parts to line-side and removing finished work; externally, one truck collects small lots from several suppliers.

Milk runs enable frequent, small, leveled deliveries that support JIT and small batch sizes without the cost of many full truckloads.
